Multimedia manual for teacher training

Lately I have been working to complete a manual that comprises the use of multimedia in teacher training in Cambodia. The first chapter describes the general working context of the Cambodian educational system, comparing with the 4 phases of ICT integration as proposed by UNESCO.

Then the different type of multimedia focused on are explained. After looking at some characteristics of multimedia according to instructional design theory, it examines the group of static multimedia (focusing on animations), dynamic multimedia (with special attention for simulations and games), and concludes with an overview of web tools for education.

The last chapters then look into the TPaCK model and give examples of how this model can be applied and integrated in a teacher training context in a developing nation.

This manual was developed to support the operations of VVOB in Cambodia, which for ICT focus on the development and localization of multimedia for science teacher training.

This manual is still in a draft format, but it is taking shape and may contain a useful overview for people interested in using multimedia, especially in developing nations. If you would like to have a look at the manual, please let me know!

Reason for ventilating my views

I have been working for over 8 years in the interesting intermingling field of ICT in education. Although I come from a technical background myself, I feel that a lot of educational and technical staff involved is either focused on one or the other side. In this blog I look for solutions to overcome the typical obstacles that I and others working in this area have to deal with everyday.
